Cheryl Tweedy Stalker Jailed for 16 Weeks After Convicted Killer Visits Home
  • Cheryl Tweedy Stalker Jailed for 16 Weeks After Convicted Killer Visits Home, Bannister was sentenced for breaching a restraining order by visiting Cheryl Tweedy’s home multiple times despite having a violent past.
  • Bannister’s actions left Cheryl feeling violated and fearful for her son’s safety as he repeatedly attempted to contact her despite legal restrictions.
  • The stalker has been banned from entering any building where Cheryl might be present and is prohibited from contacting her on social media under an indefinite restraining order.

Daniel Bannister, 50, who doesn’t have a permanent address, has been sentenced to 16 weeks in jail for violating a restraining order by showing up at Cheryl Tweedy’s home in Buckinghamshire back in December 2024. This incident took place shortly after Cheryl attended the funeral of former One Direction member Liam Payne. Bannister was already under a restraining order that prohibited him from contacting the singer or visiting her property.

Cheryl had been at Liam Payne’s funeral in November. Bannister, who had targeted Cheryl—known in the music world simply as Cheryl—was previously seen at her home three times in January, July, and December of last year while she lived in the Chalfonts area of Buckinghamshire.

When Cheryl spotted Bannister outside her home in December, she told police she “immediately panicked.” He had rung the entry intercom at the mansion she shares with her young son, Bear, and even asked her for a glass of wine during his visit.

“I recognized him right away because I’ve had past incidents with him coming to my property,”

Cheryl explained to the police.

“I was worried he was trying to find a way into my home.”

In a prior statement to the Crown Prosecution Service, she admitted that his repeated attempts to reach her made her feel “violated” and scared for her life, expressing concern for her son’s safety as well.

“It’s really distressing. He’s not allowed to be at my home,”

she added.

Bannister has a history of violence, having been imprisoned in 2012 for manslaughter after fatally assaulting his neighbor, Rajendra Patel, at a YMCA hostel in Croydon, where both lived. The court revealed that both men had mental health challenges, with Patel diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Bannister had brutally punched and kicked Patel, injuring him severely, who later died from a blood clot.

Judge Nicholas Price mentioned that while Bannister didn’t intend to seriously harm or kill Patel, the assault was severe. At High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court, District Judge Arvind Sharma highlighted the need for an immediate jail term.

In addition, he imposed an indefinite restraining order on Bannister, barring him from entering any place where Cheryl might be and from contacting her through social media.

Cheryl chose not to submit a victim impact statement for the sentencing. Previously married to Arsenal star Ashley Cole, Cheryl had a high-profile relationship with Payne from 2016 to 2018. After his tragic death from a fall at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Cheryl shared an emotional tribute, posting a black-and-white photo of Payne with their son on Instagram.

“Liam wasn’t just a pop star; he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend, and a father to our seven-year-old son,”

she wrote.

“Our son now has the heartbreaking reality of never seeing his father again.”
