Chris Martin breaks his silence on daughter Apple's debutante ball - after she addressed the 'mean girl' rumours

Chris Martin has shared his thoughts on his daughter Apple’s high society debut after she went viral for her behaviour at the Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris last month.

In a new profile for Rolling Stone, the Coldplay frontman, 47, admitted that he never imagined himself one day attending a debutante ball.

Yet he ended up doing it out of ‘love’ for 20-year-old Apple, who was later accused of exhibiting ‘mean girl’ behavior during the nepo-baby event.

[It is] so not something I ever thought I’d do, but because I’m so in love with her, I’m like, “OK,'” Chris told the outlet.

The interview was conducted one week before Apple’s appearance at the exclusive event, where she was supported by Chris, mom Gwyneth, 52, younger brother Moses, 18,  and Gwyneth’s mom Blythe Danner, 81.

The A-list family, who were personally invited by the ball’s host, were decked out in Valentino looks.

Apple wowed the crowd as she posed for photos in a custom blue Valentino Haute Couture gown that took the Italian luxury fashion house 750 hours to craft, according to Vogue.

Apple was among 20 young women who were presented at the glitzy event held in the $1,000-a-night Hotel Shangri-La.

She arrived on the arm of her date, Count Leo Henckel von Donnersmarck, before letting loose with her famous parents, who divorced in 2016.

At one point during the gala, Apple and Chris enjoyed a father-daughter dance that was filmed and posted by the TikTok account @gala.fr.

Chris, donning a black tuxedo, looked beyond proud as he and Apple slow danced before sharing an embrace.

However, the sweet moment was overshadowed by accusations that Apple was acting like a ‘mean girl’ at the event.

She was scrutinized for ‘hogging the camera’ from a fellow debutante and ‘rolling her eyes’ at her dashing date.

Apple was slammed as ‘entitled’ and ‘obnoxious’ by online critics while others came to her defense, calling her behavior ‘playful’ or ‘joking.’

In response, a source in Apple’s mom Gwyneth’s camp told DailyMail.com that Apple is a ‘girls’ girl’ not a ‘mean girl.’

‘Apple’s more playful and fun and she’s really a total girls’ girl. She would never mean to take the spotlight from anyone, that was not her intention.

‘To characterize her as a mean girl is very untrue,’ the insider said.

‘She really had such a wonderful evening and I feel bad that this is even taking away from that because it was such an uplifting evening for her and the other girls.’

Even Aliénor Loppin de Montmort, the alleged victim of Apple’s ‘mean girl’ behavior, spoke up in her defense.

She called Apple ‘the nicest girl ever’ in a statement to PEOPLE.

‘[Apple] really doesn’t deserve an ounce of what she’s getting. She was the nicest girl ever towards not only me but all the debs!’

Weeks later, Apple broke her silence on the drama when she uploaded a cheeky TikTok featuring two female friends.

Seemingly poking fun at the date eye-rolling incident, Apple mimed a voiceover saying: ‘I mean… I don’t know how anyone has a problem with us.’

One pal standing beside Apple then mouthed: ‘We are such a delight we are two of the funniest girls’ as Apple stood behind her and hurled a dirty look her way.

The voiceover continued: ‘And I know us offline, when I tell you there aren’t two more generous charitable kind…’

Elsewhere in Chris’ interview with Rolling Stone, the proud dad spoke about life as an empty nester after both his kids moved away for college.

‘It’s sad. That’s the only word,’ said the musician of his new normal. ‘But of course, it’d be weirder if they were still like, ‘I can’t leave.’ Then you’d be more worried.’

Both Apple and Moses are college students, with the former attending Vanderbilt University and the latter a freshman at Brown.

It was noted in the Rolling Stone profile that Apple’s recent debutante ball gave the family the perfect opportunity to reconnect.

While on the topic of his kids, Chris said, ‘I like them very much. Even though they’re not biologically mine – I’m breaking the story now,’ he joked.

He then shared how he likes to ’embarrass’ his 18-year-old son Moses.

‘My favorite new thing to embarrass my son is, if we’re walking down the street and someone comes up to us and they say, ‘I’m sorry to disturb you while you’re with your son,’ I say, ‘That’s not my son. That’s my partner,” he revealed with a laugh.

‘Yeah. I like them a lot. I think they are mine, to be fair,’ Chris said.
