An Illinois college student was arrested and charged with strangling a woman in his campus dorm room and attacking her with a deadly weapon.
Lake Forest Police did not disclose the specifics of the assault, but they stated that Luca Vulpescu, 22, faced charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and battery. Following an initial court hearing on Saturday, he was released without having to post bond.
Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk said the attacker and the woman were acquaintances, and it was not a random attack.
“I cannot elaborate on the nature of the offenses at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing,” Zelk told Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
Police did not say if the woman was a student or provide an update on her condition.
As part of his release terms, Vulpescu was instructed not to communicate with the victim, remain within the state’s boundaries, and was prohibited from entering the school campus.
He’s due in court again on March 24.
