Planes ‘collide’ with members of Congress onboard at DC airport weeks after mid-air collision killed 67

A PLANE carrying a group of lawmakers was hit by a second aircraft on the runway at the DC airport on Thursday.

The latest plane mishap comes just weeks after 67 people were killed in a mid-air collision at the same airport.

Three airplanes on an airport tarmac; one American Airlines plane, one United Airlines plane, and one American Airlines regional jet.

New York Representative Nick LaLota said the plane he was on was parked when another jet suddenly struck its wing while taxiing.

“Another plane just bumped into our wing. Heading back to the gate, but thankfully everyone is ok!” the Congressman posted on X.

He also shared a photo from his window showing the other aircraft stopped on the tarmac, just feet away.

Early reports suggest there were no injuries, and it’s unclear how many passengers were on either plane.

An incident occurred at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport at around 12:45 p.m. local time on Thursday, April 10. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the wingtip of American Airlines Flight 5490 made contact with American Airlines Flight 4522 on a taxiway.

Flight 5490, operated with a Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft, was en route to Charleston International Airport in South Carolina. Meanwhile, Flight 4522, utilizing an Embraer E175 aircraft, was bound for JFK International Airport in New York.

“The FAA will investigate. Please contact the airline for additional information.”

The Reagan Washington National Airport noted that both planes returned to the gates and there was no effect on flight operations.

LaLota also shared that New York Representative Grace Meng was handing out grapes on board the plane.

“Glad my colleagues and I are okay! We are safely waiting on the tarmac, but we may need more snacks,” Meng replied.

Representative Josh Gottheimer posted that he was on the plane, but luckily, everyone was safe.

“While waiting to take off on the runway at DCA just now, another plane struck our wing. Thankfully, everyone is safe,” he wrote.
