An Indiana coroner says a mother killed her three daughters last year before taking her own life.
According to the Noble County coroner, the causes and manners of death for Rebecca Hughes, 32, and her three daughters, whose bodies were found in their Wolcottville home in September, are homicides and a suicide. Strebig reported that Hughes took her own life, while the deaths of her daughters—8-year-old Evalynn Newell, 6-year-old Allison Newell, and 5-year-old Amelia Newell—were killed by their mother.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, on September 17, police conducted a welfare check at the family’s home in Wolcottville and found Hughes and her daughters deceased. In an interview with WPTA, the children’s father questioned whether his visitation rights caused his daughters to lose their lives.
“What got me the most was ‘why?’ You ask yourself why this happened,” Jonathan Newell said. “Was it because of the visitations? Did my kids die because I wanted to see them?
Fighting back tears, he said he had one hour of supervised visits with his daughters twice a month.
