A severely burned body was discovered Saturday morning by a hiker at Stone Mountain, a frequently visited Georgia landmark.
A hiker contacted emergency services after stumbling upon a body on the mountain’s peak in a secluded area seldom frequented by tourists. The body was found close to the cable cars used to transport visitors to and from the mountain’s highest point.
John Bankhead from the Stone Mountain Park Police Department mentioned, “The body was concealed under a rock overhang, with additional rocks strategically placed to ensure privacy. The location is adorned with rocks typical of the area, away from regular hiking trails, and unknown to the general public.”
Bankhead called the scene “one of the weirdest” he has ever seen and described it as “unusual.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.
The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to help determine the person’s identity and cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing, urging anyone with relevant details about the incident or the individual who made the discovery to come forward and assist the authorities.
