A 20-year-old man in Orange County, Florida, was arrested for the death of his 3-month-old baby who had multiple skull and rib fractures, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office announced on Tuesday that Darius Stephone Nichols is facing charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in connection with his daughter’s death.

Deputies said Nichols reported his baby was unconscious on April 30 after falling from a couch.

An autopsy revealed that the baby had skull fractures in multiple locations and healing rib fractures from previous incidents.

“In her short life, baby Nova suffered horrific abuse and trauma. She is resting peacefully now, and our detectives will get justice for baby Nova,” the sheriff’s office wrote on social media.

Nichols is currently booked in the Orange County jail.
