Daniel Khalife latest as escaped prisoner is ‘sighted’ in Chiswick

Police searching for escaped prisoner Daniel Khalife are focusing on an area after receiving reports of confirmed sightings.

Officers searching for Khalife – who escaped from Wandsworth Prison earlier this week while awaiting trial for terror offences – are concentrating their search on the Chiswick area in London.

Khalife is due to stand trial in November as it is alleged that between May 2019 and January 2022, Khalife “obtained, collected, recorded, published or communicated to any other person articles, notes, documents or information which were calculated to be or might be or were intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an enemy.”

A court has also previously heard that Khalife “elicited information about individuals who are members of His Majesty’s forces.”

This allegedly relates to him “obtaining personal information from the MoD Joint Personnel Administration system of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.” It is also alleged that he perpetrated a bomb hoax. He denies all of the offences.

Khalife was last seen on Wednesday wearing a white t-shirt, red and white chequered trousers and brown steel-toe-cap boots, the Metropolitan Police said, and is slim, with short brown hair. He is 6ft 2in. Members of the public have been urged not to approach Khalife if they see him. He made a bid for freedom by clinging upside down to the underside of a delivery truck as it left the prison.

The Metropolitan Police said there had been some confirmed sightings of Khalife in the Chiswick area overnight and urged members of the public to “remain vigilant” and “call 999 immediately” if they see him.

The force says it does not believe Khalife to be a threat to the wider public.

In a statement issued on Saturday, it said: “We can confirm that police involved in the search for Daniel Khalife are this morning, 9 September, focusing their efforts in and around the Chiswick area. This activity comes after intelligence-led activity and some confirmed sightings in that area overnight, including calls from members of the public.

“Officers remain in the Chiswick area and are planning to carry out further intensive search activity there through the day. From reports received, Khalife is believed to be wearing a black baseball cap, black t-shirt and dark-coloured bottoms, and carrying a small bag or case.

“We urge members of the public in that area to remain vigilant and call 999 immediately should they see Khalife, or if they have any information that could assist the search. Whilst we advise members of the public not to approach Khalife if they see him, we still assess that he does not pose a threat to the wider public. A further update will be provided in due course.”
