A DENTIST accused of poisoning his wife has been charged over a suspected plot to kill a cop probing the case.
James Craig allegedly killed his wife of more than 20 years, Angela, with shakes that were laced with poison.
She died in 2023 and was found to have substances found in eye drops in her system.
Craig was charged with her murder and pled not guilty to the accusations.
But, he has been hit with fresh charges.
Cops have now charged Craig with solicitation to commit murder and solicitation to commit perjury.
Craig, currently incarcerated, reportedly attempted to persuade a fellow inmate to assassinate an officer investigating the alleged murder case, as confirmed by a source within the Aurora Police Department to the Associated Press.
The extra charges mean the dentist is now facing six in total.
It remains unknown when Craig’s murder trial will kick off.
Angela, a mom of six, died in March last year and went to the hospital three times in that month, according to court docs.
Craig allegedly laced her protein shakes with poison.
He reportedly made his wife a shake on March 6, and she started to feel dizzy.
Craig took her to the hospital after she felt faint.
Text messages seen by cops revealed that Angela told her husband that she was feeling drugged, as reported by People.
But Craig vehemently stressed that he did not drug his wife.
On the same day, Craig allegedly ordered a toxic plant extract, but it never arrived because it was intercepted by FedEx, according to court docs.
Angela was discharged on March 14 but was back in the hospital a day later.
James Craig case
The dentist, James Craig, has been hit with two additional charges related to a scheme aimed at eliminating a detective examining his involvement in the presumed murder of his wife, Angela.
March 6 2023: Angela reportedly falls ill after drinking shakes made by James. He takes her to the hospital and is in there until March 14.
March 8 – 10 2023: Craig tries to arrange lover to travel to Colorado.
March 14: Angela is discharged from hospital
March 15: She is re-admitted, and her condition deteriorates.
March 18: Angela, Craig’s wife of 23 years, pronounced brain dead.
March 19: Craig arrested on murder charges in connection with her death.
November 21, 2024: Trial delayed after defense attorney withdraws.
Angela suffered a seizure on March 16, and her condition deteriorated.
She was put in intensive care, but medical experts didn’t know what had caused her condition to explain her decline.
Medics pronounced her brain dead on March 18.
Toxicology reports revealed that she died from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline poisoning.
Court documents claimed that Craig killed his wife to start a new life with orthodontist Karin Cain, who was in the process of divorcing her husband.
And he reportedly arranged to have her fly to Colorado when Angela was ill.
Text messages showed the pair using affectionate language.
Months later, Cain spoke out on Good Morning America and revealed she wasn’t willing to have a relationship with someone who was married.
“There’s been no planning a future together,” she said.
‘NO FUTURE’
Police branded Angela’s death a “heinous” murder and unearthed a series of Google searches allegedly made by Craig.
Court documents also revealed that Craig ordered potassium cyanide – even though he didn’t need it to carry out his job.
Craig had reportedly messaged a fellow employee, informing her not to open the package, according to court documents.
He was reportedly quizzed on why he would apparently order the poison.
Angela’s business partner told a nurse, who then reported the package to cops.
In the summer of 2023, it was ruled that Angela’s death was a homicide. The cause was poison exposure.
Craig was charged with first-degree murder and solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence.
But, cops have since claimed that Craig tried to convince a prison inmate to plant suicide notes, as reported by The New York Post.
Police said he tried to convince investigators that Angela’s death was a suicide rather than a poisoning, as the toxicology reports suggested.
But, the inmate didn’t take Craig up on his offer. They told the police.
Craig’s defense team claimed that the inmate was not a credible witness.
His trial was about to get underway but has since been delayed indefinitely.
This is because his lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, has withdrawn from his defense team.
Steinberg has withdrawn over a professional conflict.
Craig is due to appear in court with a new attorney on December 16.
