If youâve already finished all the episodes of Squid Game Season 2, youâre in luckâyou donât have to wait much longer before Season 3 drops.
Prepare your Dalgona cookies for your next streaming night because Netflix has just announced that Season 3 of Squid Game will be coming out in 2025. This news is exciting, considering Season 2 only took three years to be released after the first season.
The announcement was made on January 1 through a teaser on Netflix’s X account. The teaser video unveils a new character named Chul-su. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that Chul-su is the boyfriend of Young-hee, the “red light, green light” doll.
“I wrote Seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back,” Dong-hyuk told The Hollywood Reporter. “We filmed them back-to-back, and it’s currently in post.”
Following the huge success of Season 2, which premiered on December 26, Season 3 is highly anticipated. Season 2 of Squid Game garnered a remarkable 12.6 million views within the first eleven days of its release, making it the most-viewed show on Netflix within that timeframe.
Hereâs everything you need to know about the upcoming season.
Season 3 will resume Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae)âs pursuit to take down the Front Man and unveil his true identity.
In Season 2, Gi-hun returns to the games, but heâs focused on his adversary rather than the billions of dollars he could win. He doesnât know that the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) is undercover as Player 001 and pretending to be Young-il. Gi-hun and Young-il become friends throughout the games and even work together. However, their close relationship doesnât last long. In the finale, Young-il assumes the role of Front Man again and kills Gi-hunâs friend, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).
No specific date has been announced yet for Season 3. However, it will most likely drop around June 27, 2025, since that date was written in a now-deleted video on the Netflix Korea YouTube page.
Gi-hun and the gang will likely return for the next season, along with several of the surviving players from Season 2. Hereâs who you can expect to see.
