Cassie Ventura, ex-girlfriend of Sean “Diddy” Combs, took the stand as the prosecution’s star witness against the rap mogul.
While she was heavily pregnant, Ventura mentioned that her relationship with Combs included both good times and instances of arguments and physical abuse. The defense requested for her to be seated before the jury entered due to her condition, but the judge denied the request, stating that she would receive no special treatment.
Ventura described how Combs’ control over her increased during their relationship and detailed instances of physical abuse.
During the court proceedings, Combs displayed a different demeanor. No cameras were allowed in the courtroom, so reporters described his appearance based on what they saw outside – gray hair, pullover sweaters, and reading glasses. It is unclear whether this change was due to stress or a legal strategy. Before testimony began, Combs was reportedly seen reading the Bible, while his family prayed on the courthouse steps prior to Ventura taking the stand.
