Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to hold press conference at 1 p.m. as we await decision on who will fill Vice President-elect JD Vance's Senate seat: Watch live

Gov. DeWine’s office announced that he will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. today, but did not say what it’s about.

According to NBC News, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is expected to appoint Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted to take over the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Vice President-elect JD Vance.

This comes as Gov. DeWine’s office announced a 1 p.m. press conference will be held today, but did not elaborate on what will be discussed.

We plan to stream the press conference live inside this story. You can also watch live coverage on our YouTube channel (subscribe here).

Corroborating this report, Signal Cleveland released an article on Friday morning quoting “multiple Republican sources” who confirm Husted as the frontrunner for the position.

Husted, if selected, would serve in the U.S. Senate until a special election is held in November 2026.

Jon Husted has a history of serving in various government roles in Ohio, including Ohio Secretary of State, Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, and member of the Ohio Senate. He was elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Ohio in 2018.

Earlier this week, meanwhile, reports surfaced that former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy of Cincinnati had also expressed interested in the position. NBC News cited an anonymous source that said President-elect Trump “has encouraged Ramaswamy to accept the appointment if DeWine offers it.”

After the election, Ramaswamy was named by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency alongside Elon Musk.

Vice President-elect Vance will be sworn in during Monday’s inauguration. He resigned from his Senate seat earlier this month.
