Cannon speaks remotely during a Senate Judiciary Committee oversight nomination hearing to be U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on July 29, 2020, in Washington.

Just one day after his second inauguration, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon halted the U.S. Department of Justice from sharing the second part of Jack Smith’s report on President Donald Trump’s alleged criminal behavior during his first term with certain members of Congress.

The report is split into two volumes. The first, made public recently, focuses on investigating and potentially prosecuting Trump for attempts to undermine the 2020 election. The second volume, concerning Trump’s mishandling of classified materials at Mar-a-Lago, has been blocked by Cannon from reaching the House and Senate Judiciary Committees’ leadership.
