Singer-songwriter Lizzo has shared candid insights into her personal struggles following recent harassment lawsuits in her first sit-down interview on the topic. The Grammy-winning artist revealed she faced a “very dark” period after three former dancers filed a lawsuit against her in 2023.
Lizzo admitted that the lawsuit, filed by ex-dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, left her reeling emotionally. The singer stated:
“The last year and a half, I needed time to process and grow as a person… I was literally living in my dream and then the tour ended, and three dancers just completely blindsided me with a lawsuit.”
This unexpected legal challenge sent Lizzo into a deep emotional struggle, forcing her to take time away from her music career to focus on healing and growth.
Despite the turmoil, Lizzo found solace in her music. She revealed that immediately after the lawsuit was filed, she began writing numerous songs – some of which may never be released publicly due to her emotional state at the time.
“Music saved my life, straight up, because that period of my life… that period of my life was very dark because of the feeling of betrayal,”
Lizzo shared emotionally.
The singer emphasized how music helped her cope with the feelings of betrayal and disappointment caused by the lawsuit.
Addressing the Allegations
Lizzo firmly denied the sexual harassment allegations made against her, calling them “silly” and “ridiculous.” She stated:
“Let’s be clear, I did nothing wrong… The sexual harassment allegations against me which upset me the most, but they are silly and ridiculous.”
Despite her denials, Lizzo acknowledged that the lawsuit had a significant impact on her mental state and career trajectory.
Lizzo continues to fight against the allegations made by Davis, Williams, and Rodriguez. She remains a defendant in their ongoing lawsuit. Additionally, she faces similar claims from stylist Asha Daniels, who alleged racial and sexual harassment while working with Lizzo on tour.
A judge recently dismissed the individual claims made by Daniels, but Lizzo’s company Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc remains a defendant in that case. The singer emphasized that she is “continuing to fight the other claims until they’re all dismissed, and not dropped, dismissed.”
