Actor Russell Brand is facing rape and sexual assault charges, following a 2023 investigation.
On April 4, the Metropolitan Police in London disclosed that Brand, aged 49, had been charged with several offenses, including one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault.
According to reports from AP News, the accusations against Brand were made by multiple individuals. Among them was a woman who alleged that he raped her in England back in 1999. Another woman stated that she was assaulted by Brand in London in 2001, while a third victim claimed he committed oral rape and sexual assault against her in London in 2004. Additionally, another victim accused Brand of sexually assaulting her in London between 2004 and 2005.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy remarked, “The women who have come forward are currently being supported by officers who have received special training. The investigation by the Metropolitan Police remains ongoing, and detectives are encouraging anyone impacted by this case or possessing relevant information to step forward and cooperate with the authorities.”
Brand, who currently lives in the U.S., according to Deadline, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
He could be detained by U.S. authorities under an international arrest warrant, prompting the Home Office to submit an extradition request to Washington for his return to Britain for trial.
