A man was left with blood streaming from a head wound after violence erupted on a tram after the Manchester City v Huddersfield football match.

The violent scenes broke out on a tram after City beat Town in the FA Cup. Video footage appears to show a fracas between a number of people before the man, who is wearing a Manchester City t-shirt, is left with blood across his forehead and cheek. The man then appears to be punched in the face by someone off camera.

The Manchester Evening News has reported that Head of Metrolink Danny Vaughan has said the transport service has been made aware of the incident on Sunday evening. Mr Vaughan said they are encouraging both witnesses and the victim to report it to the police.

Mr Vaughan, Head of Metrolink at Transport for Greater Manchester, said: “TfGM has been made aware of an incident that took place on a Metrolink tram this evening following the Manchester City V Huddersfield game.

“Nobody has come forward at this stage to report the incident to Metrolink or Great Manchester Police (GMP), but we would encourage any witnesses and the person affected to get in touch with GMP directly as soon as possible.

“The safety of our passengers and staff is absolutely critical and we will be working closely with our Metrolink Operator, KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM) and GMP to assist in any way we can.”

The MEN has contacted Greater Manchester Police.
