AT LEAST two people have been killed in a horror bus crash on a busy German motorway.
Two individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident involving a Flixbus coach carrying 14 passengers that overturned during a cross country journey. The incident also resulted in four other passengers sustaining serious injuries from the wreck that left the bus on its side.
The deadly accident took place on the A11 motorway between the Uckermark triangle and the Schmölln junction at around 3pm this afternoon, say police.
A 29-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man have been confirmed as the two deaths, police spokeswoman Beate Kardels said.
The bus was coming off of the motorway and trying to drive into a car park when it overturned, Kardels added.
Pictures show the Flixbus on its side next to an icy road.
The front windscreen can be seen completely smashed with the front bumper wrecked.
Several fire engines and emergency teams rushed to the scene to rescue as many passengers as possible.
No other vehicle was hit in the crash with no further casualties reported.
According to Flixbus, reports indicate that at the time of the crash, there were 13 passengers and one driver aboard. The company confirmed that two people lost their lives in the tragic event.
The remaining survivors were rushed to local hospitals for further treatment.
The Flixbus was reportedly on its way from the German capital of Berlin to Szczecin in Poland.
Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the accident with the snowy conditions believed to have played a part.
It is also still unclear why the coach was heading towards the parking lot.
The motorway towards Schmölln was partially closed following the crash.
Back in March, another Flixbus tragedy saw four people killed and another 35 injured in a similar devastating crash.
The accident occurred when the coach deviated off a German motorway close to Leipzig in the eastern part of the country. Images from the scene depict the bus lying on its side, appearing to have collided with trees at the roadside.
Another Flixbus vehicle crashed on the same stretch of motorway in May 2019.
In that accident involving a bus travelling from Berlin to Munich, one person was killed and more than 60 injured, seven of them seriously.
