On Wednesday, an Ohio grand jury indicted a man for raping and killing his 13-year-old daughter last month.
Darnell Jones, 33, the father of Kei’Mani Latigue, is facing serious charges in Lucas County. The charges include aggravated murder, first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree endangering children, third-degree tampering with evidence, and first-degree aggravated burglary, as well as fifth-degree gross abuse of a corpse. The Toledo Blade has reported that four of the murder charges have specific details that could result in Jones being sentenced to the death penalty.
As per WTVG, the indictment states that Jones allegedly kidnapped, raped, and murdered Latigue between March 17 and 18. On March 23, he was accused of abducting Latigue from a residence in Toledo where she resided with her grandmother.
Latigue’s body was found in an abandoned structure on March 24. The examination conducted by Lucas County coroners indicated that she passed away due to numerous incised wounds to her neck. Columbus police Lieutenant Brian Steel mentioned that she was sexually assaulted, her hands were dismembered, and her throat was almost severed.
Prosecutors previously said that Jones “admitted to this affiant that he inflicted the wound that caused her [Latigue’s] death. In a second affidavit filed the same day, Jones was also accused of telling authorities that he “dragged her involuntarily to the vacant house where he ultimately killed her.”
Jones remains jailed on a $4 million bond.
