A Missouri man has been charged with killing his son after he and the son’s fiancee got into an argument on Christmas Eve.
A man named Harold Luster, aged 61, took a gun from his house and threatened his fiancee before shooting Kevin Ward, who was 26 years old, in the head, as reported by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Luster has been charged with murder and armed criminal action, The Leader reported.
After receiving a call, deputies arrived at the location shortly before 9 p.m. and discovered Ward deceased from a gunshot wound. The fiancee informed the authorities that Luster was angry with her because he suspected his wife of having an affair and thought she was keeping details from him.
“Do you want to get shot?” he asked her as he retrieved his gun, according to a probably cause statement.
According to the account in the Lexington Herald-Leader, Ward instructed his fiancee to flee and contact 911 if anything happened. While departing, she recalled hearing Ward stating, “You’re not going to shoot her,” followed by Luster’s response, “You wanna get shot instead?”
Moments later, Luster fired and Ward fell dead.
Police said that a neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the shooting. The video showed Luster raise his arm, followed by a muzzle flash. The victim falls to the ground, according to the probable cause statement.
