‘Flying felon’ Deobra Redden who leapt over desk to attack judge sentenced to 26 YEARS as he pleads ‘I’m not evil’

THE felon who leapt over a courthouse bench at a judge during his trial has been sentenced to at least 26 years in jail over the bizarre attack.

Deobra Delone Redden, 31, charged at Judge Mary Kay Holthus, 62, when he appeared in court for an attempted battery case in January.

The video of Redden lunging at Judge Holthus went viral as he was dubbed the “flying felon”.

He was sentenced on Tuesday as a judge labeled his act an attack on the entire judiciary.

According to local CBS affiliate KLAS and Court TV, during the sentencing, the court official was heard saying, “We have 26 years to 65 years aggregate,” as seen in a live feed.

He was also ordered to pay $61,318.41 in “restitution to the victim.”

The convict was serving time in prison for his attempted battery charge which he had seen Judge Holthus for.

With credit for time already served, the 31-year-old would be eligible for parole in the 2050s.

Redden pleaded to the court on Tuesday that he was “not a bad guy, not an evil person.”

He said: “I don’t understand why the state is really going after my character.

“I mean I’ve always had problems since I was a little kid.”

Redden had pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder charges in September, which the judge accepted.

Judge Johnson disputed how much this had impacted him.

She said there was: “No doubt from these doctors that you knew the difference between right and wrong.”

SHOCK ATTACK

Redden was seen leaping a court bench and at Judge Holthus before getting into a brawl with Clark County District Court officials.

In the viral video, Redden could be heard saying, “Nah, f*** that, b****”, before attacking her.

Court officials and security lept to restrain Redden as the convict fought back.

Judge Holthus received minor injuries and returned to work the next day after receiving medical treatment.

On his January 3 court appearance, Redden was not handcuffed; however, during a subsequent appearance five days later, he was closely monitored with shackles, orange mitts, and a full-face spit hood.
