Drake, who hails from Toronto, showed his support for Canada when the host cities for the 2026 World Cup were announced last year. This sparked rumors that he might take the stage during the tournament.
During an appearance on 5 Good Day York on March 6, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was asked by co-host Rosanna Scotto about the possibility of Drake performing at the upcoming World Cup.

“I have a fantastic suggestion for the halftime show — Drake,”
she proposed.
“Since you were at the Super Bowl — Kendrick Lamar mentioned him during the event.”
Infantino responded humorously to the idea by referencing the rivalry between Drake and Lamar.

“We could spark a bit of competition,”
he remarked.
“That’s an excellent suggestion. In fact, Drake was with us when we unveiled the host cities. I ought to have his contact saved somewhere.”
He referred to the halftime show, which Coldplay’s Chris Martin is curating, as the “greatest halftime show ever”.
“We have ambitious goals,” Infantino told FOX 51. “We expect to attract a global audience of 2 billion viewers. It’s a mega event. So, we are very excited about it. There will be surprises. The event will have an international flair, showcasing different languages and cultures.”
The inaugural match of the tournament will occur in Toronto on June 12, 2026, with Vancouver, British Columbia, also set to host a game.
“Canada, as a nation, is a remarkable melting pot. However, in Toronto, there are countless cultural experiences,”
Drake told Infantino in February 2024.
“When the world arrives, it’s going to be spectacular.”
In addition to Canadian cities, eleven U.S. locations will also serve as hosts including Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Kansas, Boston, Dallas, the Bay Area of San Francisco, and the greater New York City region.
