A man from Florida, aged 57, who fatally shot an ATV rider at his apartment complex, is said to have concealed himself behind a building and waited for the rider to pass by, as revealed by authorities.
Ralph Francis Hensel is facing first-degree murder charges for the death of Ja”Keem Williams, which occurred last week in Winter Garden, a suburb of Orlando, as detailed by CrimeOnline.
As per an affidavit, the incident unfolded when a 911 call was placed by the leasing office of the apartment complex, which is in reality a neighborhood of duplexes, expressing dissatisfaction regarding a man riding an ATV, as reported by Law&Crime. Just a minute later, a second call followed, stating that an individual had been shot.
Police arrived at the scene and found witnesses trying futilely to revive Williams. Witnesses old police they saw Hensel with a gun walk from the leasing office toward Williams. They said he shouted something at the ATV rider and moments later, they heard two loud bangs.
Then Hensel walked back to the leasing office and said, “I killed him.” Police took him into custody and recovered a gun nearby.
The affidavit said that surveillance footage confirmed Hensel was the shooter, showing him walking from the office around a building then “lying in wait” and shooting Williams as he passed.
Detectives also said that the 911 call from the leasing office included a voice in background saying “that m***********’s dead,” the affidavit says.
A reporter for WKMG knocked on the door of Hensel’s apartment, and a woman who answered told them she was the leasing agent and that he lived with Hensel. She declined to speak, saying the complex’s owners told her not to.
WESH reported the police have been called four times about ATVs in the complex but did not say if all the calls came from Hensel.
Hensel is being held without bond and is due in court on Friday.
