Florida authorities say an 80-year-old man killed another man and woman and then himself at a retirement community in Pompano Beach.
Authorities from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for a welfare check in the Leisureville community. During the check, officials observed two vehicles parked in the driveway and a mailbox filled to the brim with mail. After receiving no response upon knocking on the door, they sought assistance from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue.
Upon entering the residence, law enforcement discovered three individuals who had sustained gunshot injuries. The authorities identified James Sheridan as the individual responsible for the shooting. The identities of the victims were not disclosed as the authorities awaited the notification of their next of kin.
All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors told WTVJ that Sheridan lived at the home with his wife and son but that no one in the community really knew them.
A neighbor named Lauren Goltz shared insights about the individuals involved, describing them as quiet and unfamiliar figures within the community. She mentioned that despite residing in the area for approximately a year, their presence went relatively unnoticed by others. Goltz highlighted the limited interactions with the individuals, characterizing the situation as one where the neighbors remained distant and separated from the community.
Ponpano Beach Animal Control removed a cat believed to have been a family pet on Thursday, the station said.
