French President Emmanuel Macron took a huge risk by calling a snap election last month, after abysmal European parliament results saw his party trounced by the far right and the far left. Commentators debated whether the decision was brave or short-sighted.

The far-right Rassemblement National won the first-round vote with ease on June 30, with numerous opinion polls showing them on course for victory on July 7. So what would it mean for France to have a party that has pledged to slash immigration, end birthright citizenship and reestablish its relationship with the EU at the helm?

On July 8, the day after the second-round vote in the French parliamentary election, three FT experts will be poised to answer your questions about the results, what they mean for France and how they will affect the wider European project.
