A 23-year-old Georgia woman wanted in the death of her 1-year-old child earlier this month has been found and arrested in upstate New York.
Rockdale County officials initiated an intense search for Gloria Wright following the findings of the medical examiner, which revealed that the child’s death resulted from blunt force trauma to the head. The examiner noted that the “acute skull fractures were not the result of an accidental fall or drop.” Additionally, as reported by WSB, the urgency was heightened due to Wright’s pregnancy.
Sheriff’s investigator Grote Levett emphasized the need to locate and apprehend Wright swiftly. He stated, “We have a small child that has lost its life in the hands of its mother and we would like to get this mother in custody because she is currently carrying another child right now, so we would like to get her in custody for her safety and for the safety of that child.”
According to previous coverage by CrimeOnline, deputies were called to the scene on January 8 after receiving a report about an infant in distress. Tragically, the child passed away at a hospital later that same day.
Wright was interviewed at the time but not arrested, and once investigators had a cause of death for the baby, they couldn’t locate her.
The sheriff’s office announced on Saturday that she had been located in Rochester, New York, with the assistance of the US Marshals Service. It’s not clear when she will be extradited to Georgia.
She will face charges of murder and cruelty to children when she returns.
