University Park police say barricade situation unfounded after search for armed offenders on Red Oak; Sauk Village investigating

Over in University Park, Ill., a recent police update was given after the mayor of the town mentioned a barricade situation on the previous day.

According to University Park police, the Sauk Village Police Department will be taking over the investigation following the search carried out on Friday, which did not yield any armed offenders wanted by the authorities hiding inside a building in University Park.

Mayor Joseph E. Roudez, III of University Park had advised the residents to remain indoors on Friday while law enforcement kept a close eye on the events unfolding in the 700 block of Red Oak.

Police said they assisted in a search for armed offenders at the location just after noon Friday.

University Park police said Saturday there was no danger to the public and the scene had been cleared. There did not appear to be any barricade situation.

Nearby residents were cleared to leave there homes around 3:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

A search for offenders armed with firearms that originated outside of University Park continues, police said.
