Florida police are investigating a fatal Thanksgiving day shooting that left a 72-year-old man dead in Lauderdale Lakes.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies responded to a call in a gated community around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, they discovered Hureleyon McLean with a gunshot wound. Paramedics later confirmed his death at the scene.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials apprehended the shooter, who was identified as a neighbor. The individual remained at the location and cooperated with the investigation. He was subsequently taken to the police headquarters, where he informed detectives that he had shot McLean in self-defense.
Contrary to the shooter’s account, McLean’s wife revealed to WSVN that the neighbor had lodged a complaint about their loud music. In response, her husband approached the neighbor to address the issue. Shortly after their interaction, Rose McLean recounted hearing gunshots.
“I heard the gunshot, ‘boom,’ and I just fly to the door,” Rose McLean said. “ I see my husband lying face down in the blood.”
Rose McLean also told the station that her husband had no weapons and did not threaten the neighbor, who told her “to shut my mouth, or he would shoot me too.”
The sheriff’s office said it would had over the case file to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
Since no charges have been filed, the sheriff’s office did not release the killer’s name.
Family members said McLean was a beloved father and grandfather.
