Shooter Dead, Several Officers Injured Following Suicide Call

A shootout in a Stone Oak apartment complex in San Antonio, Texas, left several officers injured and the shooter dead.

NBC News reported that the San Antonio Police Department received a 911 call just before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, reporting a “suicide in progress.” Shortly after the initial call, another call came in reporting gunshots at an apartment complex on Stone Oak Parkway in the 18700 block.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers were informed by a woman who had exited the apartment that the suspect was actively firing inside the residence and was expected to come out, as per the police report.

Police said that Brandon Scott Poulos, 46, exited the apartment and opened fire on the responding officers, striking one officer in the leg.

During their attempts to approach Poulos, six additional officers suffered injuries from gunshots or shrapnel. Fortunately, none of the officers’ injuries were considered life-threatening, and they were either treated at the scene or transported to a nearby hospital, as reported by News4SA.

When SWAT arrived, Poulos had barricaded himself in the apartment. After several hours of negotiation, law enforcement was able to gain entry into the apartment, where they found Poulos dead from multiple gunshot wounds, KSAT reported.

Poulos served in the Navy for 10 years. He was recently released from jail and was out on bond when the shooting occurred.

Poulos was arrested on January 18 for one count of assault causing bodily injury to a family member, two counts of injury to an elderly person with intent to cause bodily injury, and one count of driving while intoxicated (second offense), according to KSAT.

Poulos’s bond totaled $35,000. He was given “no contact” orders and was ordered not to possess or use firearms. Poulos was also ordered to undergo a mental health assessment.
