Hilaria Baldwin is defending herself against the accusations related to her Spanish accent, emphasizing that being bilingual does not equate to being fake.

During the debut episode of The Baldwins, a new reality show featuring her family on TLC, Hilaria directly confronted the claims that have surrounded her, especially after it came to light in 2020 that she was actually born in Boston and not in Spain.

Her accent authenticity came under further scrutiny following a widely circulated video in which she appeared to have trouble recalling the English term for “cucumber,” prompting people to cast doubt on her linguistic identity.

During the show, Hilaria shared her thoughts on the controversy, admitting that it has been hurtful and has affected her deeply. She said,

“I’d be lying if I said [the controversy] didn’t make me sad and it didn’t hurt and it didn’t put me in dark places.”

However, she stressed that her mixed heritage should be celebrated rather than criticized.

“I love English, I also love Spanish, and when I mix the two it doesn’t make me inauthentic; when I mix the two, that makes me normal,”

she explained.

Hilaria emphasized the significance of her community and family in shaping her identity. She pointed out that speaking multiple languages is a natural part of life for many and reflects a blend of cultural influences.

“We are a mix of all these different things, and that’s going to have an impact on how we sound and how we articulate things,”

she said.

The mother of seven also expressed her commitment to raising her children with an appreciation for both cultures.

“I want them to appreciate the beauty of speaking multiple languages,”

she affirmed. Despite the backlash, Hilaria Baldwin is determined to celebrate her identity and instill pride in her children’s bilingualism.
