Dolton, Illinois election results today: Democrat Jason House projected to replace Tiffany Henyard as Dolton mayor

DOLTON (WLS) — Democrat Jason House is expected to win the Dolton mayoral election with 95.43% of the vote and 100% of precincts reporting, according to voting totals from the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

“We really need to make sure we’re on solid financial ground. And that’s one of our biggest platforms. Of course we have to improve public safety. We have to improve our infrastructure. We have a lot to do,” House said.

House has been on the Dolton Board of Trustees for eight years now. He is projected to defeat businesswoman Casundra Hopson-Jordan, who ran as an independent.

“I just felt it was important to throw my hat in the race to give people options, to know that we don’t have to just keep recycling the same old politicians,” Hopson-Jordan said.

The election marks an end of era in the south suburbs where controversy has plagued the tenure of Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

Henyard was elected Dolton mayor in 2021 while also being appointed Thornton Township supervisor the following year.

Despite her efforts to get voters to write her name on the ballot, she seems to be headed toward defeat in the supervisor race on Tuesday night.

“If you want to be in, write me in, ‘Tiffany A. Henyard,’ for Thornton Township supervisor,” Henyard previously said in a Facebook Live video.

Democratic State Sen. Napoleon Harris is projected to become the next Thornton Township supervisor.

Harris has 74.36% of the vote with 100% of precincts reporting on Tuesday night, according to voting totals from the Cook County Clerk’s Office.

Harris was joined by House at a watch party at Beggars Pizza in Lansing.

Henyard was already out of the Dolton mayoral race after House beat her in the February primary.

House, who chose not to publicly speak on Tuesday night, told ABC7 off-camera, “It’s a new day in Dolton.”

Harris, on the other hand, spoke Tuesday evening, claiming an early victory over Republican Richard Nolan and Independent Nate Fields.

“This is an opportunity to unite,” Harris said.

Henyard has been under both federal and independent investigations over her alleged mishandling of Dolton finances.

Every single voter ABC7 spoke to in Dolton on Tuesday expressed a desire to get past the drama of the last couple of years and to move forward with a new mayor and a new township supervisor.

“We need to move away from all this attention, negative attention that’s bringing to our community and start working on the things that’s positive for our community,” said Dolton voter Robert Patterson.

ABC7 reached out to her for a comment about the results but did not immediately hear back.

In 21 days, Dolton’s next mayor will be sworn in. The swearing-in for Thornton Township supervisor will be in mid-May.
