The fire broke out at a home in the 1700 block of Kingston Circle in Carpentersville, fire officials said.

Crews from the Carpentersville Fire Department responded to the fire around 9:38 a.m. officials said.

Multiple people were trapped inside the home at the time of the fire.

Two children died as a result of the fire, Carpentersville Fire Chief William Anaszewicz said. Their genders, ages and identities were not yet known.

The Fire Chief, Anaszewicz, reported, “Upon arrival the crews had fire coming out of all four windows of the building here.” He mentioned the immediate efforts to extinguish the fire and conduct searches. Two older victims were rescued first, followed by a search in the lower level where the children were located. Despite efforts, only one child was rescued, as the other two unfortunately did not survive.

Anaszewicz also revealed that the third child found in the house was transported to a hospital. This child was initially taken to Sherman Hospital but has since been transferred to Loyola for further treatment.

Two dogs also died in the fire, the chief said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Carpentersville Fire Department is being assisted by the Illinois State Fire Marshall and the Kane County Task Force in the investigation.

No further information was immediately available.
