Howard Stern Was Previously Married to Alison Berns and They Divorced in 2001

Howard Stern and Alison Berns’ marriage seemed picture-perfect; however, after being together for over 20 years, the couple shocked fans when they decided to end their union.

Berns was Stern’s first wife; the two were married for two decades and have three children. After their divorce, Stern admitted on-air that he wouldn’t remarry again.

However, somewhere along the way, the radio presenter found love again, and he remarried Beth Ostrosky in 2008; now, the couple has been together for 14 years.

So, what happened between Howard Stern and Alison Berns that made him swear not to remarry? Why did he change his mind and marry Ostrosky? Here’s what we know.

Alison Was Howard’s College Sweetheart

When Stern began his career, he was a happy man with a loving and supportive wife, Berns, by his side. Their love story began way when they met in college. Their relationship blossomed from there, and they tied the knot in 1978.

After 21 years of marriage, the duo called it quits in 1999 and finalized their divorce in 2001, the same year that Stern married Ostrosky. According to reports, by the time Stern divorced Berns, he had a net worth of $50 million.

So it’s unclear why he divorced Berns, and yet she had been there for him through his early days when he struggled to build a name for himself in radio. Berns played a massive role in Stern’s career; in his book, “Private Parts,” he confessed that she was the love of his life.

In 2013, Ostrosky, who was 41 at the time, opened up about how she and Stern were trying to get kids of their own, but she felt like her chances were limited.

So why did Howard Stern and Alison Berns divorce? Stern revealed that his fame played a huge role in his marriage breakup. He stated that he was obsessed with his work and took it as his top priority.

Stern disclosed to Rolling Stone in 2011 that his divorce devastated him, and he felt like a letdown, considering that no one in his family had divorced. He said:

“I was with my ex-wife since college, so it felt like such a failure…I was upset that I failed and let down my family, my kids, my ex-wife. It was all very painful.”

The radio personality stated the only way to cope with his pain and get some answers on how he would explain to his kids was going to therapy.

Howard Started Another Relationship Less than a Year after Split from Alison

Stern moved on pretty fast after finalizing his divorce with Berns; in less than a year, he was in a relationship with Ostrosky. The former judge who worked alongside Simon Cowell in “America’s Got Talent” said that after splitting with Berns, he felt lonely and needed a companion.

He opened up about having casual relationships with different women before meeting his wife, Ostrosky. The moment he met his wife, the two instantly connected, and after dating for seven years, they exchanged vows in 2008.

Even though Stern is 18 years older than Ostrosky, the couple seems head over heels in love and have been together for 14 years and still counting.

Alison and Howard Had Three Daughters Together

In 2013, Ostrosky, who was 41 at the time, opened up about how she and Stern were trying to get kids of their own, but she felt like her chances were limited. Ostrosky admitted that she had come to terms with having no kids and found happiness with her pets.

Although Stern and Ostrosky haven’t been blessed with children, the radio presenter, who is among the most paid celebrities according to Forbes, shares three daughters: Ashley Jade Stern, Deborah Jennifer Stern, and Emily Beth Stern, with his ex-wife.
