Huge 10 metre whale washes up on beach at popular seaside spot near Yorkshire

A huge sperm whale has washed up on a beach close to Yorkshire.

Witnesses reported seeing the whale just off the North Promenade in Cleethorpes and say it is visible from the end of the pier. GrimsbyLive reports that Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue and a team of divers are now at the scene as they try and ascertain whether or not the whale is in danger.

The teams are now understood to be making their way to the animal to see what can be done. The whale is said to be quite a way away from the promenade itself but is attracting some attention from members of the public.

Those at the scene have stated that, with the tide coming in and the size of the whale, there is not much they can do. They are currently waiting for a coordinator to arrive on scene to make a decision on what the next steps will be.

Members of the Coastguard will remain on scene while the rescue continues and in case support is needed. It is understood teams were called to reports that a whale was on the beach at around 12.30pm.
