The family of the teenage victim of Monday’s Wisconsin school shooting identified her as freshman Rubi Patricia Vergara, 14.
Vergara’s family authorized an obituary stating that she is survived by her parents, Vicente and Jennfier Vergara, a brother named Adrian, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Vergara was “an avid reader, loved art, singing and playing keyboard in the family worship band,” according to the obituary.
Vergara and a teacher, who has not been named yet, were victims of the shooting on Monday morning. The shooter was identified by the police as 15-year-old student Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow, who tragically took her own life after injuring five students and a teacher. Two students are currently in critical condition.
Authorities are examining Rupnow’s personal life and writings to uncover the motives behind the shooting. The police have not shared many details about the incident, prompting various media sources to consult different “experts” for possible explanations for the teen’s violent actions. Law enforcement officials have urged both journalists and the general public to avoid engaging in speculation and spreading unverified information.
They were particularly concerned about a supposed “manifesto” posted online but so far unauthenticated.
