Last week in New York state, a man was arrested for taking a 5-year-old boy while Child Protective Services were present to remove the child from the home.
During the court-ordered removal, CPS from two counties and Gloversville Police were at the scene. Sergio Poietti showed up, claiming to be a family friend, and inquired about the situation before seemingly departing.
However, instead of leaving, Poietti circled back to the house, entered through a window, and took the child. It wasn’t until CPS and officers entered the house with the mother that they realized the child was gone.
Police launched a city-wide search and found the child with Proietti at another home about 90 minutes later,, WNYT said. The boy had not been harmed.
Proietti was charged with kidnapping, custodial interference, obstruction of governmental administration, and endangering the welfare of a child. He was booked into the Fulton County Correctional Facility with a $7,500 bail.
Police did not characterize the actual relationship between Proietti, the child, and the mother.
