15-year-old boy arrested for alleged threat of school violence against New Philadelphia High School

New Philadelphia police say a report will be filed with the Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — A 15-year-old student was taken into custody amid an alleged threat on social media against New Philadelphia High School.

A press release from the New Philadelphia police revealed that a threat of school violence for Monday, March 3, 2025, was posted by an individual on his account’s private story.

The incident began at 4:37 a.m. on Sunday when the police were informed about the threat through the Ohio Statewide Terrorism Analysis and Crime Center, which received the information from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The teen, who attends New Philadelphia High School, was then arrested at his residence without incident.

Police say a report will be filed with the Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.

The police stated in the press release their appreciation for the rapid reaction of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, FBI, and other participating agencies in handling the case. They emphasized that such collaborative efforts are crucial for successful investigations and ensuring the safety of schools.
