Kristina Sunshine Jung Is George Jung’s Daughter – What to Know About Her

George Jung, a notorious drug smuggler in the ’70s and ’80s, had a daughter, Kristina Sunshine, with his first wife. Despite having a strenuous relationship, the father and daughter reunited years later.

In 2001, notorious drug kingpin George Jung had a movie written about his infamous life; played by Jonny Depp; the film titled “Blow” directed by Ted Demme revealed in a shot at the end of the film that during his time in prison, his daughter, Kristina Sunshine Jung, had allegedly not gone to visit him.

Kristina and her father had not spoken in years, their relationship strained by his occupation and, ultimately, his prison sentencing.

While it’s unclear whether or not she visited her father during his incarceration, a picture taken of the two after his release confirmed their reconciliation. After her father’s death, Kristina experienced another painful loss- her daughter’s death.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT KRISTINA JUNG?

After his prison sentencing, George left behind his wife, Ronda, and his only child, Kristina, whom he had with his ex-wife Mirtha. Kristina was born on August 1, 1978; she had an unstable home life as a child as both her parents were heavily involved in drugs. Her mother, Mirtha, had a drug addiction that continued until Kristina was three.

She lived with her grandparents, Frederick and Ermine Jung, who provided stability to her otherwise rocky childhood, but after her grandfather died, she went to live with her aunt until she was 18.

She came into the spotlight when a young Emma Roberts played her in “Blow.” Kristina reportedly made a cameo in the film but had her scene removed.

In the film, a young Depp as George was in prison, regretful of the state of his relationship and regretful that he had not spent more time with his daughter. This was true of Kristina and George’s real relationship, which was unsteady.

But that changed when they reconnected after George’s release from prison in 2014. George shared a sweet picture of the pair smiling and in each other’s embrace; he captioned the image on Twitter, “Can’t live without my #heart.”

Kristina became an entrepreneur and pursued a career in acting that never really took off. She ran a clothing business with her late father called “BG Apparel and Merchandise” and was reportedly working on a book about her mother. Kristina’s daughter, Athena Karan, was killed in a car accident at 19.

In an interview, Kristina said she missed her daughter’s laugh and free spirit, asking God for strength to continue her new life without her child.

GEORGE JUNG TRIED TO RECONNECT WITH HIS DAUGHTER AFTER HIS RELEASE

George and the Medellin cartel were reportedly responsible for 85% of all smuggled cocaine in the US during the 1970s and 1980s, and he was sentenced to 20 years of incarceration. He was released from a federal prison in New Jersey in June.

George was taken to a halfway house in California to ease the transition from imprisonment to everyday life. His reunion with Kristina reportedly started a couple of years after his release as they began talking on the phone.

One of George’s representatives told TMZ that George and Kristina had plans to meet in person sometime, but it is unclear whether their reunion ever happened.

In 2016, George said to TMZ that he wanted to create a reality show titled “Poverty Sucks,” which documented his relationship with his daughter and his attempts to make ends meet after his release from prison.

The reality show was meant to be produced by Tremendous Films and centered around George learning independency, opening a checking account, going grocery shopping, etc. The pilot was reportedly filmed but did not air.

George launched his website in 2006, but the website was not updated since December 2016. After violating his parole, George was to serve three months in prison but only served one month due to his past sentencing.

DETAILS ABOUT HER FATHER’S DEATH

George died on May 5, 2021, at the age of 78. According to reports, George struggled with kidney and liver failure before he died in his hometown of Weymouth, Massachusetts, in a hospice. George’s Twitter account confirmed the news, which included his famous quote from “Blow,” reading:

“May the wind always be at your back, the sun upon your face, and the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.”

Born George Jacob Jung, his parents welcomed their son in the south of Boston on August 6, 1942. His father ran a small business while his mother was a housewife.

He was a great football player in high with a bright future before being charged for soliciting a prostitute who turned out to be an undercover police officer.

After graduating high school in 1961, he went to the University of Southern Mississippi, where he thought of briefly pursuing a degree in advertising but chose to leave school instead.

He quickly learned how much money could be made in drug selling, starting a small-scale business that blew up, and the rest was history.
