United Airlines planes in San Francisco clip wings

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that a United Airlines plane’s right wingtip collided with another United plane’s left wingtip in San Francisco on Tuesday.

According to Fox News Digital, the incident took place as United Airlines Flight 863 was backing out from the gate at San Francisco International Airport and made contact with the left wing of United Airlines Flight 877.

“The collision happened in an area where air traffic controllers do not typically communicate with flight crews. At the time of the incident, Flight 863 was bound for Sydney, Australia, while Flight 877 was en route to Hong Kong, China. The FAA will conduct an investigation into the matter, which occurred at approximately 12:35 a.m. local time on Tuesday, May 6.”

“Serving in Congress has come with some once in a lifetime experiences… like just now while stationary on the runway at DCA, another plane just bumped into our wing. Heading back to the gate, but thankfully everyone is ok! (And @RepGraceMeng is handing out grapes!),” Rep. Nick LaLota, R-N.Y., said in a post on X at the time.

“The wingtip of American Airlines Flight 5490 struck American Airlines Flight 4522 on a taxiway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport around 12:45 p.m. local time on Thursday, April 10,” the FAA noted.
