Never-before-seen look at Freddie Flintoff's horror Top Gear crash finally surfaces as Disney+ drops first trailer for 'unprecedented' documentary - and he reveals truth behind 'living under the radar for seven months'

A never-seen-before look at Freddie Flintoff’s horror Top Gear crash has been released.

Disney+ has dropped the first trailer for their ‘unprecedented’ documentary, Flintoff.

The video offers a glimpse not only of the new film, but also an unseen glimpse at the life-altering car crash.

In December 2022, the 47-year-old cricket superstar suffered severe facial injuries and broken ribs when a three-wheeled car spun out of control and flipped off a test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey while filming a stunt for Top Gear.

After the incident, Freddie kept out of the public eye for months as he recovered, but he has gradually returned to screens.

Now, Disney+ has released the trailer for his newest venture and it features candid insight from Freddie as well as shocking images of the crash.

The 47-year-old cricket superstar was left with severe facial injuries and broken ribs after a three-wheeled car spun and flipped off a test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey in December 2022

The incident left the cricket star with significant injuries following the accident at the aerodrome.

In a video statement, Freddie expressed his frustration after being out of the public eye for seven months and addressed the speculation surrounding the accident, wanting to clarify what actually happened.

Following the terrifying ordeal, Flintoff quit Top Gear and reportedly received a £9million settlement from the BBC of the crash, paid for by the broadcaster’s commercial arm.

In March 2023, the corporation apologised to Flintoff for his injuries.

Freddie opens up about his injuries in the trailer and says, ‘I’m not saying embracing them, but I’m not trying to hide my scars.’

He goes on, ‘It’s almost like a reset, I’m trying to find out what I am now. I’ve always seemed to be able to flick a switch, I’ve got to find that switch again.’

The new 90-minute documentary will be released on April 25 and features Freddie as well as others close to him as they discuss his sporting career and life.

His wife Rachael and close friends including Michael Vaughan, James Corden, and Jack Whitehall, all appear in the film.

Flintoff is set to document the sportsman’s compelling life story from winning two Ashes series for England, becoming captain of the team and to becoming a British TV icon.

It will delve into his return to the game following his life-altering car crash.

‘This is a story of resilience through career highs, personal challenges, and the pressures of living under the public gaze,’ the synopsis reads.

No photographs of the crash had ever been published before the trailer and new documentary.

Previously speaking about the 90-minute film, the 47-year-old said: ‘Cricket has always been a massive part of my life, shaping who I am.

‘Looking back on the highs and the lows, including the challenges I’ve faced since my accident, has been a real reminder of why my career in the sport has meant so much.’

He returned to TV for his second series of Field of Dreams On Tour during summer last year for series two of his BBC show.

He confessed on the show how much he had struggled since his crash, talking about it for the first time.

He said: ‘I struggle with anxiety, I have nightmares, I have flashbacks. It’s been so hard to cope. But I’m thinking if I don’t do something, I’m never going to do nowt. I’ve got to get on with it.’

‘It’s going to be a long road back and I’ve only just started and I am struggling already and I need help. I really am.

‘I’m not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes. I am looking forward to seeing the lads and being around them. I really am.

‘Got to look on the positive: I’m still here. I’ve got another chance and I’ve got a go at it. I am seeing that as how it is – a second go.’

Last year, it was also revealed Freddie would be the face behind ITV’s Bullseye reboot.

The ITV gameshow ran from 1981 to 1995 and was hosted by the late comedian Jim Bowen. It was revived once before in 2006 with Dave Spikey as the host.

Freddie hosted a one-off special Christmas reboot which aired on December 22.

Flintoff will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland on Friday, April 25.
