Thornton PD investigate double homicide after gunshot victims found inside home damaged by arson

In Thornton, Colorado, law enforcement declared on Friday that the deaths of two individuals who were shot and discovered within a residence that had been damaged by arson are now being treated as a double homicide case.

Emergency services were summoned to a residence on Columbine Street in the 16300 block shortly before 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday due to reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, first responders uncovered the lifeless bodies of a 58-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man inside the dwelling.

The two people suffered apparent gunshot wounds, according to the Thornton Police Department.

The victims’ identities have not yet been released.

By close to midnight, the firefighters had successfully put out the flames. After investigation, it was established that the fire had been deliberately ignited; however, the specific cause remains to be determined.

No arrests have been made, and suspect information is not yet available.

Detectives are still working to process the crime scene and follow up on leads, according to Thornton police. Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 720-977-5069.
