A South Dakota woman was reportedly found dismembered at her home on Thursday, leading to her boyfriend’s arrest.
When the police arrived at Heather Bodden’s apartment in Yankton, three women informed them that they had found her decapitated body inside the residence. These women also mentioned that Bodden, aged 41, had contacted them on Wednesday, expressing concerns about her boyfriend, Craig Allen Nichols Jr., aged 32, threatening her with a weapon, as reported by KTIV.
According to KTIV, surveillance footage captured the presence of Nichols at Bodden’s residence on the evening preceding the discovery of her body. Additionally, the footage revealed two other men entering her apartment on Wednesday night and departing an hour later.
The two men claimed to the authorities that they had accompanied Nichols and Bodden inside the apartment to consume drugs. They further stated that Nichols’ partner was alive when they left the premises.
Video footage reportedly also showed Nichols entering and leaving the apartment multiple times early Thursday. He was filmed eventually leaving the home with two trash bags in tow, according to KTIV.
Nichols was apprehended a mile from his girlfriend’s apartment. He allegedly barricaded himself in his home after officers attempted to execute a search warrant.
Nichols is charged with Bodden’s second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter. KELO reported that his bond was set at $500,000.
