An Alabama man was arrested this week and charged with 41 counts of sex crimes, two of them the sexual torture of a child under the age of 12.
Kevin Burgett’s victim appears to have been a relative, as one of the charges against him is incest, WBMA reported.
The Blount County Sheriff’s Office has reported that Burgett is charged with 15 counts of sodomy, 14 counts of rape, 7 counts of sexual abuse, 1 count of sexual torture, and 1 count of attempted sodomy. These charges are in addition to the allegations of incest and sexual torture involving a child.
Blount County District Attorney, Pamela Casey, has confirmed that the victim is a female relative. It was revealed that Burgett allegedly assaulted the girl 14 times over a seven-year period starting when she was just 7 years old. The abuse reportedly included 15 incidents of sodomy over 20 months, as reported by WVTM.
“I can’t imagine ever harming a child. I can’t imagine the thought process that goes into sexually abusing a child,” Casey said.
Burgett is being held on a $1.5 million bond and is due in court on March 5.
