A Kansas man has been arrested in the beating deaths of his mother and another woman on Sunday.
Rosalinda Reyna, aged 64, and Martha Velasquez Reyna, aged 84, were discovered lifeless in the driveway of a residence in Salina following a report of a disturbance, as informed by The Salina Source.
The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.
Shortly after the incident, police apprehended Preston James Reyna, aged 35, just a short distance away from the location without any resistance. He is facing serious accusations, including two charges of first-degree murder, two charges of aggravated domestic battery, aggravated kidnapping, two charges of domestic violence battery, and domestic violence property damage.
He also faces unrelated charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and interference with a law enforcement officer.
Prior to this episode, Reyna had already spent close to ten years behind bars after admitting guilt to unintentional second-degree murder in the case involving Nicolas Chavez Castro. Details from the Hays Post indicate that Reyna fatally assaulted Castro with a board because he wrongly believed that Castro had abducted and assaulted his mother, Rosalinda Reyna. During the trial, Rosalinda testified, claiming that on the day of the tragic incident, she was attempting to seek professional help for her son’s mental health struggles.
Reyna was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia.
