Man tears ligament in his penis while having vigorous sex – and can’t get it up a year later

A MAN tore a ligament in his penis while having “vigorous” sex, and was still unable to get an erection a year later.

Docs described how the unfortuante man, who has not been named, was having sex with a woman who was on top.

In stuff of nightmares, the man heard a “distinct popping sound” when his penis was suddenly bent backwards, towards his legs, during sex.

This was followed by instant pain, and the man took himself to hospital in Tehran, Iran.

Examinations revealed his penis was discoloured due to bleeding or bruising under the skin, but there were no signs of tears.

An MRI was ordered which discovered the man’s penis was not fractured.

However, it revealed a tear of the suspensory ligament, which sits at the base of the penis connecting it to the pubic bone.

It’s crucial for supporting a penis when erect, the man was likely sad to hear.

Medics said they decided not to operate and instead left the ligament to repair on its own.

The man was told not to have sex for six weeks, with a ligament generally taking a few weeks to heal or several months if severe.

But one year later at a follow-up, the man said he had been having trouble getting an erection.

He was also suffering pain, “penile instability” and his shaft was now tilted at an angle.

Another MRI scan revealed the ligament had not healed, meaning the man had been suffering for a year with a sore penis.

At this point it was decided he needed surgery, which involved strengthening the ligament with a synthetic material.

“The surgical repair resulted in a stable penis without residual curvature and subjective patient satisfaction”, the doctors, at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, said.

But they did not confirm whether the man was able to enjoy sex like he once had.

The docs admitted they had learned surgery for a tear of the suspensory ligament was best done at the earliest time possible.

“This is because it’s likely that repeated erections after the injury might prevent healing and results in chronic inflammation,” they wrote.

Experts say this type of injury to the penis is rare, to the reassurance of men.

The accident can happen when a man is thrusting at the wrong angle during sex, if something hits his erection with a hard force – such as a ball – or during sleep if a man rolls onto his erection.

It’s a troublesome injury to treat and can cause significant problems in the bedroom, mostly because it impacts erections.

The case report was published in Urology Case Reports.
