Married at First Sight UK is back on TV screens for a brand new series as a fresh group of brides and grooms prepare to tie the knot.
The hit E4 show, which is now in its eight series, sees single people who are looking for love matched to their ‘perfect’ partner by experts. Of course, the show does have the added twist that the couples don’t actually meet each until their wedding day.
This year’s series is the largest to date and at 36 episodes marks the show’s longest ever run. It will follow the journey of 16 singletons as they say “I do” and make a lifelong commitment to a perfect stranger at a glamorous wedding ceremony. The newlyweds will then head off on a luxurious honeymoon before moving in with each other and their fellow couples from the show.
Relationships will then be put under the microscope by fellow brides and grooms, and experts Mel Schilling, Paul C Brunson and Charlene Douglas, at weekly dinner parties, as well as at recurring commitment ceremonies where the couples will choose if they want to stay or leave the process.
Among the hopefuls looking to be lucky in love this series is 30-year-old sales executive Luke Worley, from Clacton, Essex. Luke is known as the “funny one” by his friends and family and can always be relied on to crack jokes. He has had his fair share of rejection over the years and admits he has struggled to meet a girl who is willing to commit.
Having grown tired of dating apps, Luke, who describes his dating life as “a mess”, is hoping the experts can help him find a woman who is down to earth and wants to settle down and have a family. The 30-year-old told BBC Essex that he had previously been asked to appear on series one and two of the show, but he “wasn’t ready then” as he had just come out of a relationship.
Viewers may recognise Luke during his appearance on Married At First Sight UK because it isn’t his first brush with reality TV. He previously starred on the E4 dating show Love Language, hosted by Davina McCall in 2022.
When he was approached for the 2023 series, he said: “When they came back and asked me for this series, I was like actually I probably do need an expert’s help to try and find someone because I’m terrible at it myself!” Ahead of his appearance on the show, he added: “I’m really open so I know I can make things work and build, I’m just hoping she has the same attitude.”
Luke starred in the first episode of the new series, which was broadcast on E4 on Monday, in which he wed 31-year-old sales manager Jay from Lancashire. The couple were paired together by the experts because they were both ready to settle down and had a lot in common, with humour being key.
Commenting on the pair, expert Paul said: “I’m really excited about this match, they have so much in common in terms of background and upbringing, and even in their profession, they both work in sales.” Charlene added: “They are also a couple of jokers, they both said the most important thing for them is that they are paired with someone who makes them laugh, and has banter.”
