A Maryland sheriff’s deputy was suspended with pay this week after his arrested for assaulting a family member.
A 26-year-old Charles County Deputy named David Moats was arrested on Thursday by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office after an incident that occurred earlier that day, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Following his arrest, Deputy Moats was suspended “pending the outcome of the investigation,” and the sheriff’s Office of Professional Responsibility began its own investigation into the matter.
The Bay Net reported that Moats was initially held without bail but was released on his own recognizance following a court appearance on Friday.
He is due in court again on April 21.
The sheriff’s office said Moats had been with the department for about a year and a half.
No further information was released.
