A 25-year-old Iowa mother was sentenced last week to 50 years in prison after she was convicted in the death of her 3-year-old son two years ago.
Billie Mosier was also ordered to pay court costs and $150,000 in victim damages, KTIV reported.
In November 2023, Mosier was taken into custody, half a year after her son, Jordan Reed, passed away. Mosier dialed 911 on May 4, 2023, stating she had found Jordan unconscious in the back seat of her vehicle following a trip from Ida Grove to Battle Creek. Jordan was first taken to an Ida Grove hospital before being transferred to a children’s hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, where he sadly passed away the following day.
Initially, Mosier claimed that her son had been strangled by his car seat’s shoulder strap, as per KCAU. However, investigations revealed that Jordan had not been buckled into the car seat. Witnesses mentioned that they had seen the boy hanging out of the rear, driver’s side window during the journey, which ultimately resulted in the injuries leading to his death, as per KTIV.
Officials stated that at some point during the short drive, the car window was rolled up, trapping the boy. Allegedly, Mosier was preoccupied with her cell phone, and Jordan was unable to seek assistance.
Mosier waived her right to a jury trial, and a judge found her guilty in April.
