OPENAI boss Sam Altman spent his childhood in Missouri and is the eldest of four siblings.
His sister, Ann, is an artist, author, and podcast creator. Let’s now take a closer look at his two younger brothers, Max and Jack.
Who is Max Altman?
Max Altman is the co-founder and managing partner at Saga Ventures.
He also worked at Microsoft and is a general partner at Altman Capital.
Max is heavily involved in the startup scene and co-founded Apollo Projects with his brothers in 2020.
The company they run is a venture capital firm that specializes in funding “moonshot” startups. These ventures aim to bring about significant changes in crucial areas like environmental conservation and healthcare.
Max managed the day-to-day operations within Apollo Projects.
He also worked at the San Francisco insurance software firm Zenefits.
Despite their serious work, Max has also dabbled in other pursuits. For instance, he once worked as a scuba diving instructor. During this time, he conducted research on how the climate crisis is affecting our oceans.
Max reportedly raised $200million for a new seed-stage startup fund.
Who is Jack Altman?
Equally as successful as Sam and Max, Jack founded Loopt – an app that captures real-time and post-presentation feedback from audience members at startup events.
He created the software while he was in college.
He graduated from Princeton University in New Jersey with an economics degree in 2011.
In 2015 he founded Lattice which develops human resources software to help track employee performance.
The company blossomed in 2020 after many workers went remote.
That same year, he pledged to financially support Lattice employees who wanted to launch their own start-ups.
He stepped down as CEO of the company in 2024 and told Business Insider that he had plans to build another company from the ground up.
“I love early stage – it’s always what I’ve loved,” he said.
Jack, who is the youngest of the three brothers, worked at Hydrazine Capital and Altman Capital.
He was vice president of business development at Teespring.
The Altman’s mother, Connie, previously told the New Yorker: “I think Sam likes having his brothers around because they knew him when, and can give him pushback in ways that other people can’t.”
“But it’s tricky with the power dynamic, and I want it to end before it explodes.”
The three brothers and their sister Annie Altman grew up in St Louis, Missouri, with their parents Connie and Jerry.
Connie worked as a dermatologist and Jerry as a real estate broker.
Who is Ann Altman?
Ann, who also goes by the name Annie, didn’t follow in her brothers’ footsteps when it came to her career choice.
After studying biopsychology at Tufts University, Oregon, in 2015 she became an artist and entertainer.
She creates parody songs on YouTube, her latest being a cover of Plain White T’s Hey There Delilah.
Changing the lyrics and title to Hey There Scared Sad Tech Bros, she showed off her singing skills to her followers.
In November 2024 she published her first book, titled HumAnnie Grief Poems.
She added a trigger warning to her Instagram post, letting followers know that they covered sensitive topics.
Annie also has a website called All Humans Are Human where she discusses her thoughts on the 10 “C” themes to the human experience.
The 10 Cs are: consciousness, choice, change, compassion, communication, community, creation, charge, curiosity, and courage.
