Netflix’s series With Love, Meghan featuring Meghan Markle has faced criticism and received underwhelming reviews, causing worry among the platform’s executives.
Just six days post-launch, the show has already dropped out of the top ten most-watched titles in key markets like the US and UK.
According to the Daily Mail, a Netflix source admitted that the show did not reach the expected level of success, sparking concerns about its reception. This is especially concerning considering the significant investment made in Meghan’s brand, set to be highlighted in Netflix’s future physical stores.
In spite of the show’s disappointing performance, Meghan took to celebrating the fact that a second season was filmed concurrently with the first.
Despite this, reports suggest that the show’s performance may not guarantee the renewal of Meghan’s Netflix deal, which is currently up in the air. Filming both seasons simultaneously was a cost-effective decision that allows for adjustments based on viewer feedback, leading to uncertainty regarding any contract extensions.
Critics have largely dismissed the show, with Variety describing it as a “Montecito ego trip” and other reviews labeling it as “gormless lifestyle filler.” The series, which holds an 11% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, features Meghan hosting friends at her home while discussing topics like DIY crafts and self-care routines.
Many viewers have perceived her attempts to present herself as a lifestyle guru as lacking authenticity, with comedian Christina Pazsitzky calling Meghan “phony” and “inauthentic.”
