‘Snowfall’ Spin-off: Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know

Snowfall fans are getting closer to a spin-off.

In 2023, Deadline reported that a spinoff of the FX show Snowfall is in the early development stages. The network officially ordered a pilot for the spinoff in March of that year, according to Variety. Although the title of the new project has not been announced yet, more information has been gradually emerging.

John Singleton, the creator of Snowfall who sadly passed away in 2019, developed the original show. The series first aired in 2017 and spanned six seasons on FX. It explored the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles during the 1980s and featured a cast including Damson Idris, Carter Hudson, Isaiah John, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Angela Lewis, Amin Joseph, Michael Hyatt, and Gail Bean.

Curious about who will be reprising their roles from the original series in the spinoff? What storylines will the new Snowfall spinoff focus on? Here is a summary of everything we currently know about the upcoming series.

Isaiah John and Gail Bean are reprising their roles as Leon Simmons and Wanda Bell-Simmons, per Variety. The two actors’ characters tied the knot in Season 6 of the original series.

Meanwhile Variety also announced that Asante Blackk (This is Us, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder), Peyton Alex Smith (All American: Homecoming), and Simmie Sims III, who performs with the name Buddy (Rap Sh!t) have been cast as series regulars, though intel on their roles has yet to be revealed.

Deadline had teased that the pilot, written by executive producer Malcolm Spellman, would be set in the ’90s back in 2023. According to Variety, the logline of the pilot goes as follows:

“Set in 90s Los Angeles soon after the end of the original series, a recovering addict (Bean) strives to take West Coast rap mainstream despite potential infighting from a harrowing gang war.”

A release date has yet to be announced for the pilot of the new Snowfall spin-off. We will update this story as soon as that information becomes available.
